12 Cricket Lane
not completely verified, but probably true
built in 1939 by 5 people associated with WHOI
An early, or perhaps first, owner was Richard H. Backus, a WHOI staff biologist; editor of a massive treatise on the Georges Bank, and co author with Thomas Lineaweaver of "The Natural History of Sharks". He planted many plants on the lot; along with John Kanwisher, planted a forest of bamboo trees for instance. He also named Cricket Lane. In the mid to late 1980's, Cricket Lane was sold to Richard Armstrong, the present owner.
